Peterson Makes it Two in a Row in MARA at Peoria Speedway

Wisconsin’s Brian Peterson did the repeat in Midget Auto Racing Association action as he took night-two on the weekend schedule, this time at Peoria Speedway. A regular in the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series, Peterson won the night prior in MARA action at Lincoln Speedway. That was his first-ever midget win for the veteran who has been a regular in midgets since 2016.

At Lincoln, Peterson held off the charging field but led every lap. Peoria was a different story. Jace Sparks jumped to the early lead in the A-Main with Peterson in tow. The pair was running low while second place was in question as Mario Clouser was making his car work on the high groove from his fifth starting spot.

As the race went on Peterson kept the leader in his sights while Clouser started to fade up top. Mark McMahill kept on Peterson’s tail. As the leaders continued on the huggy pole, Clouser found a rhythm and grip about seven laps in by running high in the first corners and low in the third and fourth turns.

Clouser’s only issue was finding a spot on the absolute bottom when he got to turn-three as there were other cars there. At about the half-way point, Clouser came down on second place Peterson. This seemed to ignite the runner up and with the help of Sparks washing up just a bit out of four, Peterson allowed Clouser a spot on the bottom by powering forward and into the lead, letting Clouser file in behind him.

Clouser continued his high-low pattern expertly as Peterson had the bottom sealed. With five laps to go, just like Sparks, Peterson washed up exiting the last corner allowing Clouser to slide under and take the lead.

The advantage was short lived for Clouser as one lap later he didn’t get low quick enough in three and Peterson snuck under him for the lead. A lapped car made it interesting as it was in Peterson’s groove and would have had every right to stay there. After nearly getting tagged as Peterson caught it out of two, the lapper went high coming out of four letting Peterson and Clouser battled it out for the win. Peterson finished the deal by several lengths over Clouser, making it two in a row in AgVenture/ Wehmeyer Seed A-Main action.

HEATS AND AWARDS

Rod End Supply Qualifying Fast Time honors went to Todd Kluever as did the Horizon Develop Build Manage Invert Draw.

Daltyn England took Fusion Engineering Heat-One.

Horizon Carpentry Heat-Two was won by Kluever.

Clouser was the High Performance Lubricants Hard Charger.

The Schoenfeld Headers Heat-Three and Hoosier Racing Tires B-Main were not needed this evening.

UP NEXT

It’s another doubleheader weekend next week as MARA is back in action at Lincoln Speedway on Friday, June 6 and will then head east to Coles County Speedway in Mattoon, IL, on Saturday, June 7.
