Daltyn England Takes MARA Portion Of Bennett Memorial At Lincoln Speedway

Daltyn England scored his first Ag Venture/ Wehmeyer Seed A-Main win of the year with the Midget Auto Racing Association Lincoln Speedway and the Bennett Memorial.

Rod End Supply Qualifying started the night with fast time going to Zach Boden. Of note, after a fourth place qualifying run, the car of MARA points leader Jace Sparks went up in smoke and had to be pushed into the pits.

THE HEATS

Wisconsin’s Tommy Colburn paced the first two laps of Fusion Engineering Heat-One before Mario Clouser took command and easily won the race. Tyler Roth passed Colburn with one lap to go, taking the runner-up spot. It was made official at the start of the heat that Sparks was out for the night with a blown engine.

Brian Peterson and RJ Corson went side by side on the first lap of Horizon Carpentry Heat-Two. The next time around England insisted on making it three-wide as he drove between the two. The trio spent the lap going neck and neck. On lap-three Corson backed out allowing the other two to go side by side for another lap. On the next circuit England surged ahead and went on to the win over Boden who had had to work his way through traffic.

AG VENTURE/ WEHMEYER SEED FEATURE

Roth made it exciting at the drop of the green from his outside row-one starting spot as he fishtailed coming out of turn-four to start the feature. This upset the car of row mate Peterson who slid high. At that, England, who started P3, bolted under Peterson and took the lead to start the race.

England then pedaled away as they raced two and three wide behind him. By the fifth circuit things had sorted out with England enjoying a straightaway on second place Clouser who was running the top with Boden in hot pursuit on the bottom. At this point the leader was also starting to come upon lapped traffic. With most lappers running low, England’s high line suited him well and he never abandoned it.

With five laps left, England had checked out and Clouser broke away from Boden. Boden gave up the low groove, briefly, only to have Roth occupy it and challenge him for the last podium spot. Boden went back low and held off Roth.

In the end, England won by at least a half a lap over Clouser. In his Victory Lane interview England thanked engine builder Mike Wallace for his powerplant.

NOTES

Horizon Develop Build Manage Invert Draw honors went to Boden.

The High Performance Lubricants Hard Charger Award winner was not available at press time.

MARA thanks Schoenfeld Headers for their sponsorship of Heat-Three and Hoosier Racing Tires and their support of the B-Main, neither of which raced this night.

With the engine issue, Sparks gave up the MARA points lead to Mark McMahill who finished fifth. Roth moves into third and England fourth.

UP NEXT

MARA and the AFS Badger Midget Series will try again to have a co-sanctioned race after last week’s rainout as they both travel to Sycamore Speedway next Saturday, August 30.

The race will stream live on Badger TV.
